In the past, from my experience in getting to harbour just to see the new years eve fireworks was usually just unbearable, with the sheer amount of people roaming all the city streets and not to mention the crowds you’re fighting over on the public trains and even if you tried your luck as being the smarter ones and deciding to take a taxi? Good luck with that one.
Looks like this year, things might be different. Appears Sydney-siders this year will be in for a treat for the new years eve fireworks.
According to Kylie Minogue and Lord Mayer themselves, there is an ‘app’ for those who aren’t brave enough to face the public to get to the harbour or those who simply just don’t have the great harbor view, can still feel like they part of the ‘scene’ as it is promised the ‘app’ will light up phone screens as coloured lights splash the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Using the ‘app’ its’ users will have the opportunity to send text messages to the bridge, which will then be displayed on LED lights on pylons. I assume there will be some police work involved to ensure these messages remain a healthy family rating, there wasn’t much more information on this at the source
At the moment the details are vague as to what platform it will be on once it is ready. One can only assume iOS first, with Android and perhaps Windows Phone to follow shortly. Will update as I come across any more information.
Update – The official Sydney NYE 2012 App is available in the iTunes (iTunes Link) store. Judging by the description, it should deliver what it is set out and promise to do. The SMS messages to the bridge is limited to only one message per person (good luck trying to explain this one to those who enjoy a drink or two during the celebrations).
